Keystone International Livestock Exposition 2011 – Part 1

The 55th Keystone International Livestock Exposition was held at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pa October 1-9th, 2011 with some outstanding livestock from across the country.  According to the KILE press releases there were 1,100 head of beef cattle, 500 horses, 1000 sheep and 950 swine exhibited by producers from 32 states!

I had the opportunity to spend 5 days there (Wednesday through Sunday) with 4 head of cattle from Lenape Limousin.

Midnight Sun (a percentage bull), Whiskey River and Challenge (Limflex bulls – Full blood Limousin females bred to a Red Angus Bull to produce a Limflex calf) and Plum (a bred Fullblood Limousin heifer).  It was the first show for all of them and they held up well for 5 days.  In my next post I will show you what a day life at a cattle show is like!

Here are a couple pictures from around the week:

Some pigs relaxing  and one of the 6 horse hitch teams

Samples from the fleece competition.

Texas Longhorn cattle and one of the showmanship classes during the show.

3 of my friends from college showing their steer calves in the Club Calf Prospect Show.  The calves were then sold in an auction and went home with kids to be shown this show season.

A livestock show would not be complete with out some bling!

Just a few of the sights, there was so much I did not get time to see taking care of the cattle and meetings for different organizations kept me pretty busy!

Check out the next post to see how we did at the show and to see what a day at a cattle show is like!
